Roughly equivalent to the old Périgord, the department of the Dordogne is an "in-between" region: it lies, from north to south, between the end of the Massif Central and the first plains of the Aquitanian Basin. Fom east to west, it stretches between the Causses of the Corrèze and the Lot and the vines of Charentes.
With swimming, rock-climbing, hiking or horse-riding, this is a unique region for all nature lovers and all amateurs of sporty holidays.

This is a department of huge size (922 000 ha, the third biggest in Fance). Here is a land ruled by the forest intimately linked with the cultivated parcels. The hills and slopes covered by woodland and heath mark a strong contrast with the vales and valleys dotted with fields and meadows.
A wide variety of activities are available in the Périgord. From the fitted water parks to the natural water bodies, with the slow meandering rivers occasionally turning into wild moutain brooks in rocky areas, the region will appeal to the whole family. Trips in a canoe or a gabare, on horseback or in a horse-drawn carriage, marked trails for cycling or hiking... The Périgord welcomes you in truly authentic fashion. Few areas here are industrialized. The land is green, sunny, and offers a great diversity of landscapes. |
