It was here, in the valley of the Goulet that the famous statuette known as the Venus of Sireuil was discovered.
You will walk beneath rock shelters, caves and dwellings in which innumerable tools and weapons carved and shaped by prehistoric men some 12,000 years ago have been collected. |

From prehistory to present day…

The place has always been inhabited from prehistoric times onward. It was dug further and built into a castle in the Middle Ages, to be ultimately reused and converted to a civil dwelling at the beginning of the 20th century.
In addition to the forest park and the prehistoric caves you will visit the rocky terraces and the marsh.
The traditional habitat has been reconstructed in due respect of the customs and local history of the Périgord. Numerous scenes from the daily life of our ancestors will plunge you into time, from prehistory through the Middle Ages, up to 1966 when a farming couple settled down in a monolithic house entirely cut into the rock.
This recent rehabilitation work was conducted with the greatest care being taken to preserve the spirit of the place and its past.
The entire course is equipped with signs and panels providing a coherent and chronological understanding of how the cliff has been inhabited throughout the ages. |
