Before the access tunnel was created, visitors were lowered down into the chasm in groups of 3, by means of a basket hauled by a horse.
This old system has been recently put back in use, so that anyone who so desires can embark on an unusual visit, just like a hundred years ago. Thrills guaranteed ! |

Outside the chasm, several facilities have been designed to enhance the visitor's satisfaction. All facilities built around the chasm can be easily accessed and are available at no extra cost.
• Geological Exhibit
Designed to provide a better understanding of numerous phenomena, this is a place for young and old that should not be missed. Illustrated panels and an artificial creek show the evolution of the four major geological eras and the cave formation process.
• Woodland Trail
On the plateau concealing the chasm you will find various species of trees present in the Périgord. A signposting system provides detailed information on these species throughout the walk. At the end of the trail, 300meters further, you will get a view of the famous Vézère valley, reaching up to the cliffs at Les Eyzies.
• Leisure Area
For fun and relaxation, a park has been created in the woods (playground, picnic area) around the vast reception building which houses the bar and the giftshop. Everything here has been thought out for the wellbeing and pleasure of all.
• Parking
A parking area is provided in the immediate vicinity of the chasm. This large-capacity parking area will save you time and trouble in getting to the chasm. It is specially designed for buses and groups. |
